The Geonnotti surname does not currently exist in Italy but there are more than 1000 Giannotti and 1000 Gianotti which is only an indication that the surname may not be spelled correctly making tracing difficult. There is no record in the ellisisland.archives for Filomen Givanelli and there is no current spelling for that surname in Italy either. In order to overcome the spelling problem which is vital to any research you have to search for variations of these surnames. It may be they entered through the port of Phiuladelphia and if you go to the Family History Libray of the Mormon church closest to your home and request the micorfilm for Philadelphia Passenger lists index for the eyears 1883 to 1948 look for microfilm NARA#T526-4 which is catalogued by the Family Hisotry Library #1380259 for Geonnotti, Giannotti or Gianotti and the same numbers for Givanelli. Gavinelli. Gavenelli.

Should you happen to know from what town or province they came from in Italy or when they arrived and when the passed on if they are not living it would help immensely!!! Peter

Philomena Giovanniello (Givannelli) and Theodore Geonnotti

Post by alwaldow »

Philomena last name might have been spelled Giovanniello instead of Givannelli. Philomena's grandparent might have came from the Naples area of Italy before the 1900's. She died 20 Feb 1955.
Her Step-mother's last name was Julia D. Giovanniello b. 14 Oct 1894
d. 5 May 1986 in Downingtown, PA. Her social security number is 189-16-6835

Theodore Geonnotti was born 14 Oct 1907 and died 27 Jan 1974 in Kensington, PA. His social security is 199-05-3847

He is listed in the social security death index at www.ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com and if you click on the far right where it says SS-5 you can click on that and request a copy of his oirignal social security application which will have all the vital information as to date and place of birth and parents names. There is a charge of something around $25.00 I believe. The same can be done for Julia. Peter

This is a heavily trafficked website and this is the first time I have ever seen it out of action. It is probably of short duration so give it another day and I am very sure it will come up. Peter
