immigration to canada
I know that my grandfather was about 12 years old when he and his two brothers left Italy for Canada. I beleive that they landed in Montreal. The headed to North Bay, Ontario.
His name was Sam (Salvatore) Baldassero. He was born Arpril 22, 1894 and lived in Macchia da Sole. Although his name could have been changed from Baldassare or di Baldassare or something similar. His parents were Dom and Mary. His brothers were Anthony and Joseph, could have been Antonio and Guiseppe.

Re: immigration to canada
thanks Bob,your information is correct. What I am looking for are ships logs landing in Montreal around 1906 from Italy. The challenge I am having as well is that I beleive that the spelling of his last name changed once arriving in Canada. He spelled it Baldassero, some cousins that came over spelled it Baldassaro. Possilby derived from Baldassare?

Re: immigration to canada
I found an Antonio Baldassaro age 29 traveling with Domenico Baldassaro age 27 Both single and traveling into New York on Dec 1910 from Canada. Both born in Southern Italy and having a father named Domenico living in Teamo Italy?.
They show they were in the US 1 time before leaving on 4/07 for Antonio and 7/06 for Domenico

Re: immigration to canada
thanks, Antonio and Domenico were brothers, I beleive. My great uncles.
Dominco was Antonios son, my mothers cousin.
I am still trying to backtrack to find which ship they took to get to Canada and from where they left Italy.

Re: immigration to canada
where would I find information on ships landing in Montreal in the early 1900's from Italy? Is the port of entry where the documents would have been drafted for them to enter and stay in Canada?

Re: immigration to canada
www.Theshipslist.com/research/canadarecords.htm for orientation but I would call 613-996-5115 or toll free 1-866-578-7777 Canada immigrant archives and ask them for the specifics of 1900 Montreal immmigrant entries records. You could at the saem time google it for 1900 Montreal itaian immigrant records or simply 1900 to 1920 Immigrant entries at Montreal Canada and research it. =Peter=

Re: immigration to canada
I'm looking for my grandfather's entrance into Montreal from Rippabottoni Italy.
I searched Ellis Island to no avail. But I do know that part of his family went to Montreal before coming to the Northwest of the U.S.
He entered I beleive as Felix Charles. The original name was Ciarla or Carlo.
Born in or around 1892. He married mygrandmother, Adelina Grosso.
