born after 1948? Unable to get Italian citizenship?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

born after 1948? Unable to get Italian citizenship?

Post by Georginar »

I wrote this un another sub forum but it wasnt the write one, basically the questins are 2:

1)
my greatdad: Antonio Carchedi, born 1876 filadelfia catanzaro.
His wife: Josefina Colombo born 1885 Milan.
THEIR DAUGHTER: Jiudita born in Buenos Aires is mother of my father, and the one that would be passing the italian citizenship.

in this case it goes like this for me:

Great grandfather: italian
GrandMOTHER: argentinian
father: born in 1942, argentinian
me: Argentinian

Is it true that since my father was born in 1942, and is HIS MOM the one that would give him the Italian citizenship, he CANT get it because he should have been born AFTER 1948 (and Ive been told that when a women is one in the descendant line her sons/daugthers has to be born after 1948), but if the line went:

Great grandfather: italian
GrandFATHER: argentinian
father: argentinian
me: Argentinian

if this is the way, Im unable to get the citizenship -.-

2) In case that it doesnt matter if my dad was born in 1942, and i want to get the citizenship, does he have to become an italian citizen or can I get it without him having to be one? Because he was born in Argentina, and now hes an US citizen, and he cant get the italian one because he wasnt born in the US, so he has only 2 and he wont become Italian so he doesnt loose the US one.

thanks in advance!! :D

Hello and welcome. A woman born before before January 1, 1948 cannot pass citizenship.

This is an excellent link that will give you a very clear explanation. I have it set for lineage of Father - Grandmother - great Grandfather (for your case).

The first paragraph explains it. Hope this helps

Good link BillieDe Kid. In this case it's the father that must be born after 1948

No jcat he doesn't qualify for jure sanguinis because his dad was born in 1942. He's going to have to look for another option.

This stuff always makes me dizzy when I read it!!
