NAPOLILLO & NUSCO

Post by mariasoto12 »

Hi..I am looking for information on Angelo Raffaele Napolillo, 1884, Nusco, Italy. He married Maria F. Mongelluzzo. They first lived in Connellsville, Pa. and moved to an area near Fairmont, WV. I am trying to connect the Napolillo Family to the Delligatti Family. Angelo Raffaele Napolillo's parents were Guiseppe Napolillo and mother Filomeno Delligatti. A Delligatti family lived near Angelo(Ralph) and Maria in Fairmont, West Virignia. I am trying to determine if they are related.

Thanks
Maria Napolillo Soto

Hello Maria!
Do you have both family's ship manifests?
If anyone arrived after 1907 they listed who they left in Italy on the manifest.
Most manifests after the late 1890's listed who they were joining in the US.
Perhaps they'll be a clue to connect these family's?

Thanks Valarie, I did not klnow that the Ship Manifest noted the family left behind. My Italian connection has been very illusive as records are difficult to find. Thx..Maria

Maria,

My family is from the Fairmont, WV area. My father grew up in Rivesville, WV - right outside of Fairmont. Ralph Napolillo was the name of my grandfathers brother and/or father. My father is Anthony "Tony" Ralph Napolillo and his father was Anthony (something) Napolillo (my grandfather). I don't have much information off the top of my head since I never knew my grandfather and much of my family beyond immediate and uncles/aunts have passed. Also, no one seems to remember much. It seems like my immediate family lost contact with everyone else when my grandfather passed. I remember a Mildred/Maria or something who I think was my grandfather's sister. But Angelo (Ralph) may have been my grandfather's father who I think I have a very old picture of. I also remember meeting some "cousins" who were living in FL or California, they came to the funeral in Fairmont, WV of my grandfather's sister Mildred when I was like 10 (ca 1988 - 90 ?) - I remember two girls. So there might be some people out your way who would have some information as well or maybe one of them was you.

I can try to find some information. I know that my grandfather and family visited Naples to meet with other family there at one time (it is on video somewhere), but not sure who he visited but think there is a Napolillo St.... I'm not sure about Delligatti (but seems kinda familiar) but the Mongelluzzo name sounds really familiar because my grandmother was trying to remember who we were related to and she thought it was Manccuzzo or something which seems very close Mongelluzzo (she couldn't remember exactly or maybe I just thought she said Manccuzzo). She also said we were related to the Gotti family through my grandfather's sister or cousin, but this could have been Delligatti and not Gotti (as in John Gotti).

But, contact me by email and I will try to get some more information while I can... I basically have my grandmother and she is the only who seems to know anything.

Wow, I had to teach my self Italian just to sign up for this board.

Edit: I've been doing some searching and it looks like there was a Joseph Napolillo (Giuseppe) and a Minie? Napolillo who were also living in Rivesville, WV a while back who are almost certainly related to my family as they are also from Rivesville, WV. Fairmont and Rivesville are in Marion County, WV.
My grandfather Ralph Napolillo is from Nusco born in 1886, his wife,Mary, was also from Nusco, born around 1870. We have several spellings of her last name Mongelluzzo is VERY close. They were married in Nusco, traveled to US to Penn. and later to Rivesville, Wva. Would appreciate any information you may have. I will check your web site.
This is your post from another forum. If this is the case then I am closely related (relatively speaking to your grandfather - might be my great grandfather or great uncle depending on how that works).

Okay, I found the census records:

Ralph and Maria F. Mongelluzzo (assuming you are correct w/ surname) were my great grandparents who moved to Rivesville, WV. They had 8 people listed who I assume were all their children (listed oldest to youngest w/ yob): Mikie(1910), Joe(1913), Fanny(1915), Mildred(1917), Louise(1920), Antoniette(1922), Anthony(1925) - my grandfather and Ralph(1927).

So we are related and maybe I have already met you.
