Both of my grandparents were born in Italy and came to the US in the late 1800's/early 1900's. I have a copy of their passport and the name of the ship that they came in on. I also know the region in which they are from, however, this is where it ends. I have no idea how to trace my roots back to Italy. Could anyone provide assistance or direct me to someone who can? I would be most grateful.

The cardinal rule is to work backwards from the USA to Italy. May I suggest a book titled Italian genealogical Records by Trafford R. Cole which is an easy read and will enable you to conduct your research objectives unimpeded. You mention you know the region they are from but in Italy all records are in the town of origin. Peter
