Hey guys my name is Alfredo Cristinziano, im 31 from Montreal and i really hope i can find someone who has some insight for me regarding my grandfather who came to Canada from Campobasso Italy

his name was Alfredo Cristinziani, when he came to canada in the 1950's they changed the last name to CristinzianO

I wanted to find some information on my great grandfather and where he was born in Italy ect. As well as how far back Cristinziani began.

If someone wants to take a stab at it, or has some questions for me in order to better facilitate the search,id be more than happy to help!

Dear Alfredo welcome to the forum.. We would like to assist you very much and to start things off we want to advise you that in Italy most records are in the town of origin be it a city,a town or even a village.

When you say that your family came from Campobasso often that means a town or village in the Province of Campobasso and while people indeed came from the capital city of Campobasso you need to be certain.

Once we have the town of origin securely known then it is easy to direct your efforts and ours to assisting you trace your family back to the early 1800's.
In the interim give this a quick read.

Here is a site that will show you where in Italy the name exists.

And here is a site that will give you specific towns of origin.

http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

In Ellis Island records only one person with that name immigrated. I am posting that record so you can see the town she came from. However, there are no persons with that name in the town today.

Someone else on this site may be able to help you with Canadian immigration records.

During my research I have run across several Cristinziani families. Most were from Montagano, with one family from Montorio. The surname Cristinziani is found in four towns of Molise today: Baranello (14+ individuals), Montagano (9+), Campobasso (3+), and Sant'Angelo Limosano (2+). Baranello has a population of 2650, while Montagano has 1250 residents. Campobasso has over 50,000 residents and Sant'Angelo Limosano has 400. (See http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng) Based upon this information, your most likely town of origin would Montagano; Baranello also has a fair percentage of Cristinziani. However, you can't be sure until you actually do the research. BTW, in the 18th century records the surname was usually spelled Cristinzino; later records used Cristinziani.

the strange..... does anything come up in

Montelungo, Campobasso.... this is where he was born. My grandfather that is.... Alfredo Cristinziani... then when he came to canada in the 50's it was changed to Cristinziano. Therefore i dont think anyone from the cities you mentioned would be from my roots or side of the family.

thanks for the links ill see what else i might be able to dig up in Montelungo!

Sorry, nothing in Montelongo. The civil records of Montelongo 1809-1900 have been filmed by the LDS. Go to www.familysearch.org, then follow the links to LibraryCatalog and PlaceSearch. Type in Montelongo and you will be able to view the film details.

My Cristinziani line came from Biccari... I was able to get my gr-grandfathers (Antonio Cristinziani) birth record from 1884... I'm now trying to track down information on his parents (Donato CRISTINZIANI and Lucia TUMOLO)...

Many thanks to this board for providing me with the information I needed (email and form letter) to get the birth certificate...
