Im specifically looking for the major cities of Northern Jersey that immigrants flocked too in the 1890s. Besides the obvious Jersey City and Hoboken, were there other cities up in that area that were popular? Maybe Union City, Weehawken, North Bergen? Anyone know about this?

Union City was also called West Hoboken. My grandfather was born there and it wasnt called Union City yet. Then part of Weehawken also became Union City too. Its confusing because my great grandparents are buried in Weehawken cemetery but its technically in Union City. Being Im looking for info in the 1890s it gets confusing with all the name changes.

Many communities on both sides of the Hudson River (N.J. and N.Y.) attracted RR immigrant workers and as they progressed northward they settled where they worked along the banks of the Hudson River or close to cheap available land. Many intiially settled inthe post civil war areas close to NYC and Hoboken, Weehawken etc etc. . To this day one can trace this passage northward along the "tracks". As the many millions poured into NYC the line of progression blanketed the area giving impetus to a wider dispersion.

Hi John A,
That's probably my Uncle Bob. He lived in Englewood Cliffs and believe he had a business in WNY. My GF had a Jewelry store in West New York up until 1960 when he retired. My Dad, Joseph, Genduso, lived on in an apt. on Blvd East, my mom on 48th St in Union City, until I was born and moved to NY after that. My Uncle Bob lived on 6503 Broadway in WNY when my parents got married in 1957.
