Looking for some more detailed information about Isadoro Pusanti (ellis island spelling) currently spelling is Posante, and his wife G. Prestigaucomo. I heard from a unknown relative that believes Isadoro had two sons named Phillip-half brothers. the ky family of Posantes do not know anything about a second marriage. Isadoro came over in 1912. Isadoro arrived in 1912...but had been in the US before. He is listed as being in the US from 1906 to 1912. When he came back in 1912, he was to meet with his brother Giuseppe in KY. and left his wife in Monreale.

In the 1910 census of Louisville, Jefferson, KY, he is listed as a boarder in the household of Gama (B?)aserta. He is listed at age 36, married, arriving in 1906, and an Alien. In addition, the two other boarders listed might be relatives. Joe Prestigiacomo, age 47, also arrived in 1906 (could be the brother of his wife) and what appears to the son of Joe, Joacomo (probably Giacomo) Presitigiacomo, age 16, also arriving in 1906.

By 1920, Isadore is joined by his family in the Kentucky census...Jeffereson Co., Louisville. ED 93, page 1B:

As for having two wives....may have been in Italy, but not apparent in the US unless Giacoma died after 1930 and he remarried. Most likely this did not occur. However, because of naming practices....the first son is often named for the grandfather on the father's side. If the first son died, the next son born after that date might well be named the same so that the name will continue. This may have happened.

The civil records...birth, marriage, and death records...for the town of Monreale are available on microfilm through the Family History Library. Go to www.familysearch.org and look for Monreale and the records they have available. They are in Italian, but can be read with persistence and a dictionary of Italian/English. In addition, the book by Trafford Cole...Italian Genealogical Records and the book by Lynn Nelson....Discovering Your Italian Ancestors can both help you read the difficult handwriting and translate the Italian.

You can get the births, deaths, and marriages from 1820 to 1903. There are early census records...but these are not like the American census and can trace only the family heads before 1820...you need the civil records first to make sense of the census.
