We will be traveling to southern Italy this fall. Where would be the best places to search for civil registrations and census records for individuals from Simbario, Catanzaro (now Vibo Valentia), Calabria, Italy? Some of the family immigrated to the U.S. around 1910. The rest of the family stayed in Italy.
Would records be at the church and registry office in Simbario or at provincial registry office or archives? We are interested in beginning in 1910 and working backward as well as forward in time.
I have been told that there were family group registrations that might also include the names of children who had immigrated. Is that the census? Where would these be found for Simbario. At the time the family immigrated Simbario was part in Cantanzaro, but is now part of Vibo Valentia.

It may be easier to conduct your research into civil records here at a Family History Center before you leave.
In Italy the records are kept at the comune.
