Looking for information. Tracing my roots.
Giuseppe (?Vincenzo?) Laurino born Feb. 10, 1852. Married Teresa Doti from Sasso di Castalda in early 1880's moved to the U.S. in early/mid 1880's. Name changed to James Lorraine. Had 8 children while in NY. Moved again to CA around 1921 to the San Joaquin area. Name became (sometime after 1930 Census) Vincenzo Laurino. Died in 1941.
Would like to learn about any siblings and their descendents....here in the U.S. and Italy as well. Don't know his parents names.
Teresa Doti born November 27, 1862 in Sasso di Castalda, Potenza. Parents were Francesco Doti (his father may have been Domenico Doti). Her mother was Annunziata Santangelo (father may been Francesco). Teresa's parents married in 1849...so there may be some older siblings of Teresa.
Married Giuseppe (see above). Sometime after 1930 Census she became known as Teresa Laurino.
Known children include Michael, Anthony, Mary, Julia, Rosina(?), Anthony, Frank and Teresa. They all went by the Lorraine surname (girls until married that is).
Again, would like to learn about any possible relatives here in the U.S. or in Italy.
Thanks much,
Michelle

Since you are starting out reseraching your family, the cardinal rule is to work Backwards. If I were you starting out (its your research) I would purchase an easy read book titled Italian genealogical records by Trafford R. Cole. This will give you the running head start you need. For immediate research you can go to wwww.circolocalabrese for italian form letters and obtain the birth and marriage records for both since they obviously were born there and you know when they were born and most likely married about 1872 or 1873 (20 years old means italian miliatry service completed and thats when people married), Send the form letters toi Ufficio di Stato Civile, Comune (town) of Sasso di Castalda, Province of Potenza, basilicata region, postal code 75050. Italy Include a self adddressed envelope and $5.00 even though the service is free since overseas requests are last on the day tp day priority. Peter
