Help with last name
This scan is from the Bisacquino Registrar. What does the mother's surname appear to be?
The baptismal records for this infant listed on this page, lists the mom as a Bruno but this does not look like Bruno to me and I have been told that church records are probably wrong but government records never are.
What do you think?

Re: Help with last name
Looks like Catharina Bruno
The last name in the record is definitely Bruno

Re: Help with last name
Mother's name is Caterina Biondo in the first image while in the second it seems Bruno...

Re: Help with last name
Well this is my problem. I can find a marriage record for a Giuseppe Salvaggio and Calogera Bruno from 1862 but it would put both parents in their 50's when they had this daughter, which is possible but seems unlikely. I have been unable to find any records of a Biondo-Salvaggio marriage.
Do you have any suggestions?

Re: Help with last name
I am going through the marriage indexes for 1860-1888 on the beta website of family search and I see that there is, in the index, a listing for a Joseph Salvaggio and Catharina Biandi (image 40 of 408). I have to find the marriage record itself.
Re: Help with last name
the record is image 130 of 408
the marriage is from Oct of 1869 and I believe his parents are correct-Bernardo and Anna Piazza, if my memory is correct from helping you another time.
The bride is Catharina Biondi and her father's name looks like Gaetano ? and the mother could be Rosaria Lo Voi

Yes, you have helped me before (and very graciously, I might add); I will see if I can locate that record. I don't know how I have overlooked it in the past but my eyes began getting crossed after reading so many names.

Marriage date is Oct 30, 1869
I went through the indexes looking at all Joseph Salvaggio's and the names of their spouses
The page number is in the index and then I found the record, so it should be easy for you to locate

Re: Help with last name
How could a church record be so wrong? Even the marriage record for these two show a Caterina Bruno? A few letters off I can understand but Biandi and Bruno are not even close. I am skeptical to confirm any of it.
Re: Help with last name
I am confused. You have a civil marriage record which shows that Joseph married a Catherine Bruno?

Re: Help with last name
This is the correct marriage. To make a long, long, long story short, I have been trying to confirm the lineages by the order in which they named their children. I was missing a Gaetano as Francesca Salvaggio's maternal grandfather but couldn't begin to figure out how to move forward. This solves it though. YEA!

Re: Help with last name
To answer your most recent post, I had found a Joseph Salvaggio-Calogera Bruno marriage but I wasn't sure that Caterina and Calogera were the same people.
Also their parents names didn't match the naming scheme that I needed to confirm that all of the boys born in America were named after their grandfathers and great-grandfathers. I had a Gaetano born in America but no Gaetano listed as a parent of Calogera Bruno; however Catherina Biandi as a Gaetano and that better matches what the registrar reported on their daughter's birth certificate.

I'm glad the marriage record solves a mystery for you. I have had a problem with the surname Bruno in another Sicilian town. The name was Blundo in some records and Bruno in others, but appears to be the same person. I was, however, only dealing only with state civil records and not any church records.
Anyway, happy if this find has helped you.
I meant to tell you that I think that Gaetano has a second or middle name in the record which should be Atanasio in Italian.
also neither of the spouses had been previously married
