village of Pensa?

Post by jstinnett13 »

Does anyone know of a village in Italy called Pensa? It is listed as the place of birth of a ship's manifest and I don't know what province to start looking in. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forum-
There is no town, village, or hamlet called Pensa, as far as I can tell-

you can search the following websites which have an alphabetical listing-

http://www.italyworldclub.com/italian_frazioni/

http://www.italyworldclub.com/8000_italian_communes/

Some possibilities-

Comune di Pienza-

Frazione (hamlet) of Penta

I would suggest you upload the ship's manifest to this forum using a program such as imageshack.com. This way those of us at the forum can look at the handwriting on the manifest

The other thing is that, if you give us the name of your ancestor(s), and some information about them, we may be able to locate them on other records which would clarify the name of the town from which they came

Can you let us see the manifest (scan it, post a direct link to it, or tell us where to find it)?

What looks like Pensa to you may be something else.

In the meantime, the best I could locate currently is Frazione Malpensa Aeroporto, Comune di Gallarate, Provincia di Varese, Regione di Lombardia, Northwestern Italy - but I don't have a good feeling about this. :)
