First, I want to thank everyone in the forum who has helped me, especially Misbris, Carmine, and Drew.

Recap:

My appointment was yesterday at 11:30 a.m. Around 11:20 a.m., I went to the office of Raffella Buiano. She was very gracious and immediately I was at ease. The first question asked was, “Who I using as Jure Sanguis for path to citizenship.”

Ms. Buiano then requested that I show her records of my GF’s naturalization. I told her that he never naturalized, and she asked for support. I provided her the following documents:

Passenger Record – Domenico Musacco
UCIS – Two Reports
National Archives
San Diego Court Clerk
Copy of 1920 Census Report
Certified Copy of 1930 Census Report

The next step in the process was to provide her the following documents:

Note: I was not asked for my GM's death certificate.

Of the documents I submitted, I had my GF’s death certificate amended as well as my F’s BC and DC. These were translated as well as all the apostilled documents. I did all the translations myself with the use of google translate and an Italian, literate friend.

I only had two glitches. Arizona has two certificates of marriages, one of which is a certificate abstract of the marriage. I was told that I needed to get this document and have it translated and apostilled. In addition, I need to send Ms. Buiano a copy of my U.S. passport with these documents. Once she has these documents, I have a complete file.

Unfortunately, because of the backlog at the L.A. Consulate, it will be another twelve months before I become a citizen of Italy. Since my sister wants to become a citizen as well, I was encouraged to have her apply before my documents are registered in Italy, and then she and I will be registered at the same time. Ms. Buiano also is going to provide me a document for my daughter, who lives in Fort Worth, Texas, and is 24 years old, to apply for citizenship via the Houston Consulate once my documents are registered in my commune.

PS. You have always been a citizen of Italy; you just need to wait another year to have that fact officially recognized!

Congrats. I had the same woman a year ago next week. She told me it would be 8 months. I'm still waiting. I called her and spoke with her in February and she told me then that they were processing January 2010 then. So it looks like 16 months for me or double the time she told me and my file was complete when submitted.

The wait is frustrating, but outcome is what matters.

In my original post, I noted that "Arizona has two certificates of marriages, one of which is a certificate abstract of the marriage. I was told that I needed to get this document and have it translated and apostilled." Correction: It is not a certificate abstract of marriage that I need to be certified and apostilled. Instead, in addition to the marriage certificate I already submitted in my meeting yesterday, I need to obtain a certified copy of my marriage license and then have it apostilled.

I am curious how many others had to get both a certified copy of a marriage certificate and a certified copy of the marriage license.
