Ancestry Italian Site

Has anyone used the Ancestry.it site? What type of information is available? Is it worth the money?

I have had an ancestry . com subscription for a few years. Several months ago, I added ancestry . it; it only costs - what is it - like €9.95 per year? I figure at that price even a single record found would be worth the annual fee.

The site is, of course, entirely in Italian. It helps greatly if you are familiar with the US site if only because the layout is the same and you can avoid having to translate everything just to determine what to click next.

As to what you will find there, well, the low annual cost probably speaks to that issue directly. It will be the reverse of what you find on the US site - if you try to view a New York passenger manifest on ancestry . it, you will be prompted to sign up for International access. If you try to view an Italian birth record or Family Tree for which the US site requires International access, then the Italian site will display it freely.

There is alot of info on Ancestry and they are adding Italian records all the time but if the towns they have are not good for your research I would stick with Family Search and the FHL films and writing to the Comunes for records..................Like you I see you are researching PAGANI, NAPLES and BISACQUINO, PALERMO which are not on Ancestry or familysearch

I've had great success going through FamilySearch.org Church Records for Bisacquino. The records are imaged, but not indexed, therefore they will not appear in searches. However, the images usually include Italian indexes.

I just wanted to say Pagani is not in Naples, but in Salerno province.
