where to get vital documents from Sicily? please help ;)

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

where to get vital documents from Sicily? please help ;)

Post by aybewell »

Hello!

I just found this forum and I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me. I am in search of several vital documents from Italy, to help me obtain dual-citizenship (two birth certificates and a marriage certificate). I was about to hire a third-party service to track this paperwork down until I read the information on several of these forum-threads; it seems that third party sites are expensive and unreliable, and many people claim I would be best off requesting the documents myself.

I would like to do this, however, I'm confused as to where I should write to request the docs. It seems that there are several, local, vital stats offices (and church parishes) in my great-grandfather's region--and depending on which document I need (and from what year it comes) I must make a request through one of three different offices.

All three documents are from Corleone, Palermo, Sicily. Two are birth certificates (from 1884 and 1888), and one is a marriage certificate (from 1909). If anyone knows which place(s) I should mail a request to, and how much (in Euros) to send, I would be greatly appreciative. This is for citizenship purposes, not mere research.

Thanks again for your help, and feel free to e-mail me at Jaclyn.costello@gmail.com

Ciao!!

You can write to:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Corleone
Piazza Garibaldi, 1
90034 Corleone PA
ITALY

You can try email, some comuni respond others do not: affariistituzionalicorleone@postecert.it. Fax is also an option: 091 8464453.

Thank you so much! But I was informed that there are separate offices, depending on when the relative was born (i.e. before a certain year, I must contact a different local office.) Do you know anything about that? Or do you think I'm safe simply sending all three requests to the office you recommended? Thank you again for caring ;)

I suppose it may be different for a huge city, but in nearly all cases Ufficio dello Stato Civile (The Office of Civil Status) should be your initial point of contact.
