I'm actually looking forward to this. She's a great actress (one of my favorite of her movies is "Only You" which is set in my native Pittsburgh) plus she's of Italian descent, and I was VERY disappointed when they had no Italians in last season (Ashley Judd and Steve Buscemi are both part Italian, but they didn't research that side).
Anyway, you can read more about, and watch her talking about it on Regis and Kelly, with these links:

Just wanted to know if any of you watched this episode (which aired tonight at 8/7c). I did - I was a bit undwhelmed, especially since she only traced one ancestor, but it was nice to see her in Italy speaking a little Italian.
Thoughts?

Not too bad and definitely much better than the Martin Sheen episode.

Agreed - I didn't like Sheen's episode, either!
My beef with this show is how *clearly* scripted it is - I mean, what are the odds everyone that goes on there uses the same, silly, feel good phrases (like, "I feel like I've come full circle").
Also, I love how in Tomei's episode, it showed her and the official looking through the books to find a record on her ancestor, and then when they *do* discover it, the other guy already had a translation made up - it's pretty obvious all the work was done prior to filming.

I think all the prework would be obvious. Wish I could have all that done for me but, having Italian Genealogy for help in translations is great. If we all had the money we would probably do something similar.
Just seeing the old books and how things can be found. Interesting.
