Bobbio, Italy -grandmother's birthplace
Bobbio, Italy -grandmother's birthplace
I understand my grandmother was born in Bobbio, Italy. I am trying to get a copy of her birth certificate. Can anyone help me? I also have some records saying her birthplace was Talecchio Pavia. She sailed to the US in 1904. They lived in New York in Manhattan General assembly 2 and then moved to Hartford, Ct. I have their census records for 1910, 1920, 1930, so I have a fairly good record of their locations once she married. I would also appreciate any help possible on finding my grandparent's marriage certificate from NY.
Re: Bobbio, Italy -grandmother's birthplace
A name would help. What was her first and maiden names, the name of her husband?
Re: Bobbio, Italy -grandmother's birthplace
Her maiden name was Antonette Plate. Her husband was Giovanni Salvatore Bezzini or Bazzini. It eventually became Bezzini, but original records have many spelling variations. I have been told that they married in New York. I have not had any luck finding much prior to the 1910 census. I do have her arrival record. She was born on 1/9/1886. He was born on 6/2/1882.
Re: Bobbio, Italy -grandmother's birthplace
I would try the microfilm records first there are records available from Family History Library for Italy, Piacenza, Bobbio - Civil registration 1866-1929 birth death and marriage records since you have a birth date 1/9/1886 its a good beginning.

The town of Bobbio is now in the province of Piacenza and is the Emilia-Romagna region. Before 1923 Bobbio belonged to the province of Pavia which is in Lombardy region. Borders of the regions were moved and this is why your records mention Pavia.
I couldn't find any place called Talecchio. It could be Telecchio, a bunch of houses, not even recorded on maps but belonging to the municipality of Bobbio. You can see it in the link here below. Click on your left where it says "Telecchio" and the yellow pin will show you the exact place(enlarging you can see 10-15 houses):
http://maps.google.it/maps?hl=it&gs_upl ... =websearch
This is just to show you the place. If you want your ancestors' birth certificate you must send a request (for both of them) to the City Hall in Bobbio. This is the email address for the department in charge:
anagrafe.bobbio@sintranet.it
Officers in charge are: Sig.a Daniela Stefli amd Sig. Gianfranco Malaspina.
You might need some help in writing your request in Italian:

About your ancestors surnames: Bazzini is the correct surname that can be found in the area and Antonietta's maiden name is Platè (with accent on "e").
