Antonino Nicotra, Linguaglosse, Need help finding birth rec

Post by nico5940 »

This is my husbands grandfather. He was born 7 Sept 1894 in Linguaglosse, Sicily and passed away on Oct 16, 1962 in Homestead, FL. I am trying to locate his Italian birth record but can not find it. I have been searching in ancestry.com in the Civil Registration 1810-1936 for Faterna, Catanzaro, Calabria with no luck. Antonino Nicotra arrived in NY,NY from the port of Napoli on March 17 1914 on the ship Taormina. That's about all we know. On the ships registry is shows his father's name but I can not read it. It looks like Lucians but not sure.
There is also a number (5-8955)shown above his occupation (which I can't read either)
We have no history of his parents in Italy.
Does anyone know any other websites I can check out? If we find his birth record we will then learn who his parents were. This will be a great gift for my elderly father-in-law to learn who his grandparents were! Thanks for your help.

Marty, honestly I don't know. My aunt said he was born in Linguaglosse. The NY Passenger list shows birth location as Linguaylota? All that comes up in ancestry.com is Catania. I will try some of the links you provided. Thank you.
