Need some help please

Post by jkguercio »

Hi!

I am researching my husband's family. I have some information, but I am at a point now that I need to write to Italy. I know the family came from Polizzi Generosa, Palermo, Sicily and that I need to write to them. I have a baptism certificate of my husband's brother (so we believe) who was born the year before my father in- law. It is hard to tell sometimes when they use the same name. I have found letters on the internet to use to write to the appropriate institutions for the information I am looking for, but, my question is, how much should I send for payment?? I also welcome any and all advise and suggestions.

Thanks,
Jane

HI,

To answer your first question, if you wish to write, typically the donation is in Euro for the equivolent of $15 US. That cost will get you the single birth act. There may be a long wait for the search to actually be done.

If you are not aware, there is an easier way to do this research yourself from your hometown. The FHC (mormans) have microfilmed the civil records for Polizzi Generosa from 1820-1911. The cost per film is about $3.50 for a months rental, and takes about 2 or so weeks for delivery.

You do not need to be a member of the Mormons to use this service.
You can find more information here about this service. This is how alot of us here are able to trace families so quickly.
