Looking for information on a family from North-West Italy.
The fathers name was John Davia...his wife was Mary DeSilvestro.
Their children included Damiano and Clestie.
The immigrated to USA around 1899. They came in through New York, but by 1910 they were living in PIttsburgh. Around 1910, Damiano married Ida Bates.

Hello, My grandmother was a DaVia or Da Via as it was spelled sometimes. Her father came from Pieve di Cadore, Provincia Belluno, and her mother Valle di Cadore, Provincia Belluno. This is northern Italy, not so far from Austria. Do you have any idea for the town??

But those pre-1900 Manifests are lacking in information! One thing is for sure however, they came from Provincia BELLUNO!! (Where my Davia's originated) and they were going to be with their father, who must have been here previous to 1899, or earlier in that year. There were two possibilities, Giovanni who came in 1896 and Giovanni Battista who came even earlier.
Also, in 1904 there is a Celeste Davia from Pieve di Cadore age 22 (she was 18 in 1899) who was coming back from Italy and married (maybe a trip to see relatives??). Her final destination was her brother Michele Davia of New York.

Well...that's the right part of Italy...I'd be curious to see some of thye other names you have. Here's what I can remeber off the top of my head (I'm not at home right now)
There is a "family story" that the original spelling of the name was DaVia or Da Via. Another family Story indicates that the family, once they immigrated, was split between New York, Chicago, and Pittsburgh.
I've actually spoken with one of Damiano's sons...he said his granfather (i.e. Celeste and Damiano's father) was named John.....but I also know that some of that family (i.e. Damiano, celeste, and their brothers) americanized their names. So....maybe Giovanni was changed to John?
Another tiwst on this is that I;ve seen some record (I can not remember where) in which the name John Davia had spelled "Daveu". That is the only instance I've found of that spelling, so I assume that was a misspelling. Every other document I;ve seen, including census, had Davia or DaVia.
I am certain that Damiano/Celesets mother's madien name was DeSilvestro (I have two sources for that...an application of SSN and the interview mentioned above)....but beyond that...all I know is that she was from Italy.
I know that Damiano had quite a few brothers....antonio, graciano, carlos....and others I can't remeber without my notes.
SHortly after arriving, the family ended up in Pittsburgh...one of the borthers (Antonio?) did well working at the Dravo ship plant.
One of Damiano's sons (David) was my father.

Great, let me know when you get to your records. Was there a brother Michele (Michael)? Also, Giovanni is the Italian name for John, so that would be Damiano's father's name if John is right. My family always used the Da Via spelling. My great grandfather Massimo Da Via was born in Pieve di Cadore in the 1870's, son of Burrei Da Via and Filomena Epifanio.

My great grandmother was Berta De Silvestro. She was the daughter of Francisco De Silvestro and Julia Obrelli. Our De Silvestro family came from Mazzin (or there abouts)
Looking at some records, there are records for the name Dalvai around Vigo di Fassa (very close by), as well as many for De Silvestro. That name seems to be concentrated around that area
