GIOVACCHINI or MENCARELLI family search

Post by lindag »

I am trying to find geneaology on Giuseppe Giovacchini and Zelinda Mencarelli, both from Badia, Pozzeveri, Lucca. They married and had at least 3 sons who migrated to the US. Birth dates are about 1860. Sons birth dates were around 1894, 1896.

If you have any information or any sources to find information, please advise. Also, could these names have been spelled differently in Italy? Since Giuseppe and Zelinda did not migrate to the US, are there any cemetery files online?

Thank you.

You may find this helpful, posted by Trish:

Hi Everyone,

I want to explain the proper way of obtaining microfilm from a Family History Center (aka – Latter Day Saints)

1. You go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... t_fhlc.asp and click on place search and type in the town you are looking for. Click the word search.

2. A list of the results will show up. (Remember there can be more than one town especial with a Saint’s name – ex: Santa Caterina dello Ionio and Santa Caterina Albanese).

3. Click on the link. A new page will appear where it will state (Name of Town) and Civil Registration.

4. Click on that link and a new page will appear which states “Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910â€Â

If you want further information of the sons, you could mention their given names. Have you seen any census, or boat records of the 3 brothers? I have seen the best census transcriptions come from this forum.

Your local Family History Centre would probably have internet access to Ancestry. com where you could do free look-ups (census, ship, and other American records)...

It's amazing how many records can be found on the internet these days... it just gets better year after year....
