sorry but your message was not completely read by me and so please disregard my first message. However, in Italy all documentation, records and information are housed in the town of origin and since there are currently 828 persons in Italy with the surname Andreatta distributed over much of northern Italy, it becomes difficult to get an easy answer. However, if you go to www.ellisisland.org for entry into the USA by a family member then the town of origin can be easily obtained. Please advise what you know about the town f origin and what ther ellisisland records show. Peter

Hi

I have found the info on Ellis Island site my grandmother Lucia Andreatta I then wrote the Segonzano archives which sent me a little info . giving me my great grandparents only. I then went to the Church diocese in Trento which had no information. I also wrote the Italian Archives office in Trento but they had no information.

I can\'t remember the exact places as they were called and would have to look them up.

I do not write or speak Italian but a family friend helped me translate.

Any family members still alive haven\'t been able to help much if there are still relatives in Italy.

So I thought I would leave a message here in case anyone else had info. Thanks for your time

Had you initiaslly told me that Segonzano is the town of origin time and effort could have been avoided. In any event since there are 33 persons with the Adnreatta surname in the town the best recourse is one letter to all 30 odd persons asking them if they know your family. Enclose a self addressed envelope and, if convenient place a dollar in each for stamps. This might bring the matter to fruition. You can write in Italian or even very simple english sentences sicne english is the second language in the schoools. Peter

Just to give you some perspective civil records commenced on or about 1862 when Italy became unified. Southern Italy records go back to 1803. Church records go back to 1600 and before that you had to be noteworthy to appear in medieval archives. Peter

P.S. why did you mention Trento chuirch records when Segonzano has one church which normally have records for the town.? Peter

I mentioned Trento church records because that is what I remembered. I remembered writing a diocese but it has been a couple years and I would have to look back in my records to see what it was. Thanks for the information
