Hi Debbie, all I have are the following details, my grandfather left Italy in 1904 aged 14. His name is Francesco Bellani ( possibley Bellerinie)
In England he married a lady called Sarah palosi (she lived in Kendel)

Re: Looking for Massa
Hi Sharon,
Identifying an ancestral comune can be a challange. I am not very familar with what records are available in England. Any hints at home? An old chest with a postcard, photograph, patron saint of the town? Have you obtained all records possible in England looking for the town?
You can plot out the towns on mapquest to see how close they are or get a good map of Italy.

Re: Looking for Massa
Just to be precise ....
There are two towns: Massa and Carrara. The province is named after both of them, so it is Massa-Carrara, but there is no town named Massa-Carrara!!
good luck!

Re: Looking for Massa
At Ellis Island, there are a few of the name Belloni. Belloni is a name that exists in the town of Massa in the Province of Massa-Carrara, Toscano.
Possibly this is the town you seek:
Massa Massa Carrara (MS) Toscana 54100
Good Luck

Re: Looking for Massa
In your first message the name was spelled Bellernie, that's way I thought of Bellani. If the spelling is Bellerini(e) then the name is more likely to be Ballerini which is quite common in Tuscany. (by the way his wife surname is probably Pelosi).dimps_401 wrote:Hi Debbie, all I have are the following details, my grandfather left Italy in 1904 aged 14. Happy hunting!

Re: Looking for Massa
Hi folks, thank you all so much for your help, it's harder than I thought looking for family! but very exciting at the same time.
I am going to Italy to see if I can find anything now that I have a better idea on the areas, if I find nothing whilst im there, no loss, it will be worth the effort.
Thanks again. God bless you
