Bioletto in Northern Italy
Bioletto in Northern Italy
I am still searching for a Pietro Bioletto born in 1870 that returned to Italy in 1911 and not heard from since. How would I be able to find death records in I don't know where in Italy he returned to. Any suggestions?

HI Casassa,
If I remember correctly you had posted this awhile ago. I believe Suanj advised you to write to his ancestral comune to inquire about his return and status of his citizenship.
Is this correct? Did you do it? Results?

Re: Bioletto in Northern Italy
Not that this will help much.....I was hoping another immigration site would list the town of origin, and all I got was the following:
Surname
BIOLETTO
Name
BATTISTA
Age
15
Sex
F
Occupation
NONE
Literacy
U
Place of last residence
U
Destination
MICHIGAN
Transit
Emigrante
Travel compartment
Ponte
Port of embarkment
HAVRE
Name of the ship
SAINT LAURENT
Date of arrival

The name seems to be more concentrated North of Torino in the Piemonte Region.....suanj is the expert on origination of names and places.....maybe she can provide further insight.

Re: Bioletto in Northern Italy
What would his ancestral commune be in Northern Italy? I don't know where he was born? Just he married someone from Locana area. Start there?

Hi Casassa,
Sorry, I guess I did confuse your request with another poster awhile ago.
Guess we need to start from the beginning.
Pietro Bioletto
born 1870
from northern Italy
returned to Italy in 1911
Have you found a passanger record for him when he initially came to the US?
Do you know the approximate year of immigration?
Do you know the names of his parents or siblings?
Was he married here in the US?
Have you found him on any census records?
Any idea where he lived in the US?
These questions will help plan a research path.

In the 1910 Census, Pietro is married Caterina. Here is the information below.
Peter Bioletto, age 40,
Catherine, age 37
Pasqualina, age 8
They were married for 13 years and they had one child and one child survived. It also states they all came in 1904 and were still Aliens.
This is the 1910 Census information.
Name: Peter Bioletto
Age in 1910: 40
Estimated birth year: abt 1870
Home in 1910: Hall Twp, Bureau, Illinois
Series: T624
Roll: 231
Part: 2
Page: 120B
Year: 1910
I hope these are some more clues for you.

Re: Bioletto in Northern Italy
I know he was born in Italy. He didn't become a citizen as of 1910. The story told as he returned to Italy 1911 to settle the family estate and never returned. I couldn't find any records of him coming to US other than 1904 on census. But family came over to join him in Ladd Il. and have that info. They were married 14 years when he returned to Italy. No family records on his side or his wifes. His wife Maria Caterina surname was Pionetti of Locana, Italy, born May 18, 1872. He married in Italy around 1897. Census said he was married 13 years in 1910. Caterine's obit tells little and we do not have one on Pietro.
Have been unable to find other Biolettos in Ladd, Il after checking.

Hi there,
Have you considered researching film from the Locana area where Catherine was from?
Or maybe even hiring a researcher...
I think we've all tried to help, and many of us don't give up easily either... but this is quite the mystery... I have followed your family a few times... and I know... finding these people are very important to you.
Catherines manifest says she was from Locana, Torino.

I truly wish someone can find an answer...

Re: Bioletto in Northern Italy
ok... then do you know if the family estate was settled??? If so, there has to be legal documents of some kind. The story told as he returned to Italy 1911 to settle the family estate and never returned.

Re: Bioletto in Northern Italy
No other info on family estate. I think he remained in Italy but family has no additional information. Not sure of date he returned to Italy 1911 or 1914.

Re: Bioletto in Northern Italy
If you know where he was married in Italy you need to obtain that marriage document. It will contain his name, age, place of birth and his parents names. If they kept the documents that had to be filed iwth a marriage his birth record will also be there along with birth or death records on his parents. Bottom line, if you get this marriage record you will definitely know where he was born and who his parents were.

There are church records available for Locana available from the LDS. Have you tried to find the marriage record there? They cover

He would have been married in 1897 from info you provided. Marriage records go up to 1899. If you find a church record you will have a date to write to the comune for the civil record if you need more information.
