What are the safest ways to send money to Italy
What are the safest ways to send money to Italy
I need to send money to Sicily. In the past, I found that sending cash doesn't always get there. Wire transfers are an option, but they are expensive, especially for small amounts of cash. Are there any other safe options to use to send money to Sicily?

Most Italian Comunes I have dealt with haven't even heard of Paypal although it doesn't exist here. I have sent cash (including coins) many times without a problem.

Re: What are the safest ways to send money to Italy
It’s illegal to send money through the post in Italy. Most towns don’t accept payments through PayPal wise or revolute. They have their own system, which of course is much more complicated. If the town wants to be paid for copies of records, they will let you know how much and how to do it. If they don’t answer, then they probably don’t have a way to accept any

With Wise you can send a bank wire from an American bank account directly to the comune's bank account in Italy. If the comune accepts bank transfers, the should be able to accept one with Wise, If the comune can give you an IBAN for their bank account, there's no reason Wise should work. I have used it with a couple of comunes with no problem. The fees with Wise are far lower than with traditional banks.Italysearcher wrote: 22 Jan 2025, 11:29 It’s illegal to send money through the post in Italy.
