Hi, my great grandfather and great grandmother came to America from Mammola Italy. His name was Luigi Calla and her name was Diana Maria Vinci. I was wondering if anyone has any information they could give me about the Calla's? I have their mother and fathers name but Im wondering about the rest of their families. Thanks for any replies!

I have their names, birthdates, birth place and I have one of their Immigration date. I want to Have documents to back up what I know and I would like to find out if we still have family in Italy. I have my great grandparents names. There names were Luigi Calla and Diana Maria (Vinci) Calla. Luigi was born in 1871 and Diana was born in 1884, both in Mammola. She arrived in America in 1906. The Family Search website has the marriage record of your great grandparents (married in Mass.) This record also lists the names of your great-great grandparents on both sides presuming you don"t have the names already.
I assume you know you can write to the commune of Mammola and get birth records for your great and great- great grandparents. Assuming they have records this would provide you with the names of your great-great-great granparents.

In terms of who might still might be in Italy, for fun you might want to check out the "white pages"
for Mammola to get contact information on those bearing one of your family names. www.paginebianche.it/calabria/mammola.htm

Thanks for your reply I would love to try the white pages however. I dont speak Italian so the language barrier is a problem

You can use either Bing or Google translate....available for free and simple to use. It will hard to do much family research with out some translation help. These sites, while not perfect, should help you understand various Italian websites.

Hi jinny - I hope you still monitor this forum. Apparently we are cousins - I am Domenic's son and I assume that his brother Orlando was your grandfather.
