Pubblicazioni / Allegati / Matrimoni records

Post by kencwalker »

Now that I've tracked down marriage records for the extended family in the Atti di Matrimoni, I'd like to find the matching Pubblicazioni and Allegati for those of "special interest". I'm having about a 30% success rate, and wondering how they are entered. I "kinda assumed" that the record order in the Pubblicazioni and Allegati would be in similar to those in the Matrimoni...apparently a bad assumption. And I assumed all Matrimoni entries would have matching Pubblicazioni and Allegati. I'm not sure if that is true in my little comune. There seem to be a lot more marriages than supporting documents. Is this a common issue?
Thanks,
-Ken

Alegati bundles are frequently out of order; sometimes simply reversed, sometimes in no seeming order whatever. However, the entry number on the cover sheet will match the entry number of the Atti di Matrimoni. For example, if the marriage of interest to you has entry #53, you will (hopefully!) find an Alegati bundle with the number 53 on the cover sheet along with the couple's names.

Pubblicazioni records are in their own order; you may even find a Pubblicazioni record in the year prior to the Atti di Matrimoni, depending on when the marriage occurred and how far in advance the couple published their intent to marry.

Thanks. Amen to that!!!! I noticed the number on the Allegati cover sheets, but didn't connect that to the Matrimoni record number. I figured the Pubblicazioni for February marriages might be in the prior year, but had limited success. I will go back, and look a little more carefully. I'm hoping to get some birth info that precedes the earliest films. Thanks!

A couple other cautions....

Make sure that the Alegati bundle is marked something along the lines of "Matrimoni" or "Atti di Matromoni". Depending on the comune, you may also find supporting documents for births, deaths, and the Pubblicazioni. These tend to be on the sparse side.

Also, it's rare for records that start around 1866, but if you are researching an ancestor or other family member who was born prior to 1820 and married late in life, the transcript will be from a Latin document. Similarly, if a grandfather's death from prior to 1820 is recorded in the supporting papers, that document will also be in Latin. This becomes much more likely when you have a comune where Alegati documents are available for marriages going back to 1820.

Good luck!
