Italian Citizenship Thru Grandmother?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Italian Citizenship Thru Grandmother?

Post by italiangirl78 »

Hi. I've been researching my genealogy. Both of my mothers parents were Italian, and all of her grandparents (my great grandparents) were born in Italy. My grandfather's father Naturalized as a citizen before the birth of my grandfather in 1897 (ish?). I'm unsure if his wife (my great grandmother) was considered naturalized bc he was, or did it herself. My grandfather was born in 1911. His dad was a citizen then.

HOWEVER, My grandmother was born 1909 in RI. Both of her parents were born in Italy, and were aliens at the time of her birth. I'm unsure if either ever became citizens. I know my greatgrandmother died young. My mother was born in 1934. I'm in my 40s, so born in the 1970s.

Do I have any sort of right by blood to become an Italian citizen?
TIA!
