Bartolomeo Stella marriage

Post by Jen5525 »

I've just taken another look at this record which I haven't done in a while. I've noticed a few new things. One is that the bride, Angela Rotunno was a widow (of Carlo Battista).

The second is the mention of Gravina in reference to the groom's mother, Oronzia Maria Solfrizzi. I can't understand what the reference to Gravina is about though.

I'd also love it if you see anything that's important that I may have not noticed.

Thanks in advance!

Here is Bartolomeo's death record. The mention of Gravina is still there, though I don't understand the context :)

So, I finally found Bartolomeo's father's (Vitantonio) death. He passed away in August of 1849 (1 month before Bartolomeo's marriage), but there is no indication that he was deceased in the marriage record. I finally thought to search that year thinking he could have passed away at the end of the year...and there he was! In Gravina!

Can someone confirm the parents' names? I see Cosmo and Teresa Monopoli. Is there any reference to where they are from?

thanks!

Great find Jen. Yes, I read Cosmo (Bartolomeo) and Teresa Monopoli as well (both defunti - deceased - of course :) ) They have made an error in the spelling of Oronzia's given name and surname????

yes, they seem to totally get her name wrong in a number of records. so many variations from Oronzia, Ornonza, Oronzia Maria, Maria Oronzia, etc. And the last name as well... but it has to be the same person you think, right?

I'm also a bit surprised by the father's name of Cosmo. this is the first time I've seen this name in my records. I thought his father might have been Bartolomeo, since that name has come up frequently. I'll have to see if I can find a child born to him Vitantonio called Cosmo.

OMG. Just found a Cosimo Stella birth in 1814.

Unfortunately years 1816 and 1817 are missing for Conversano. But the next birth in the family is Rosa Stella in Jan of 1819, so I imagine there were other children in the missing time period. I'm guessing there must be a Teresa, since their are several Rosa's starting in 1819 (which I'm assuming is Oronzia's mother's name; hopefully will confirm this when I find her death record)

But this is an awesome find for me!

So perhaps I'm wrong about Oronzia's parents names (I do need to find her death record!). But, here are 2 birth records from 1811.

Giuseppe Stella
Parents: Bartolomeo Stella (age 32) & Isabella Antonia Recchia; I assume that Bartolomeo may be a brother of Vitantonio

Maria Gaetana Stella
Parents: Vitantonio and Oronza Maria Solfrizzi

Very confused! That's a new name as well. And there would HAVE to be a Teresa somewhere. Before this then I would imagine.

You are very welcome, Jen. I've got a couple of question marks, so I'm going to sit down later and work through the two threads to ensure everything tallies. If I spot anything amiss I'll get back to you.

Angela :)
