thanks :). you are just the absolute best!!!

I have some questions too. can't seem to figure out the naming in this family and feel like there's something big I'm missing.

As an aside, I did find another child of Cosimo Stella and Teresa Monopoli: ROSA Stella. And...is she 16?!

So the Rosa and Bartolomeo names do come from the Stella side. But since Vitantonio's mother is Teresa...where is his child Teresa? perhaps before 1809? and then where are the other children. In later years, there was 1 every 18 months or so. We're going years between children in the earlier years. Hmmm.....
Scratching my head.

Yes, she is sixteen.

BTW: Switching back to Vitantonio and Oronzia, there was also a daughter named Fonta, born Conversano circa 1814. She died in Gravina on 25 April 1854, remained single and a seamstress.

There was also a son, Luigi, born 1826 who married Lucrezia Popolizio, June 1851.

It might help to read through the following related thread and maybe put together a Family Group Chart for Vitantonio and Oronzia. It might help make things clearer and show you where you have gaps, and you'll also be able to see clearly which records you already have. I noticed that I'd already found Vitantonio's death record on this other thread, which didn't surprise me because I knew his parents name sounded familiar to me.

Hi there,

Fantastic! I've now book-marked that other thread so I can easily go back to it! I hadn't added some of that to the tree because we were uncertain about it, but I think it's now clear that yes, those records definitely belong to the family :)
You are fantastic!

so reading the other thread and then this one again more closely, it does seem like the children of Cosimo Stella and Teresa Monopoli aren't necessarily following the naming pattern which is very confusing! Noted above, Bartolomeo (spouse Isabella Recchia) married in April 1810 and had a son in February 1811. The son's name was Giuseppe. Named after Isabella's father. I thought maybe they had another child right after the marriage (e.g., she was pregnant when marrying), but did not find a child born then.

the only other possibility is that he was maybe Bartolomeo was married previously as he was 33 at the time of the marriage. Alas, the records only go to 1809...

Yes, he may have been married before, but the marriage record doesn't indicate this. I notice from that record that both Cosmo and Teresa were still living. Maybe looking for their death records would help - they at least should take you back another generation. I had another look for Vitantonio and Oranzia's marriage record yesterday, using the indices available, and going through the records with no indices, up to 1814, but not there so they must have married pre 1809.

thanks for looking for their marriage record! I had looked as well and didn't find it but another set of eyes is always appreciated! My approach is going to be to look for Cosmo and Teresa's death notices, and also look for marriages of any Stella's in that region. Maybe I'll stumble across a Teresa in their that will give me faith in the naming tradition again. So strange that I see so many Rosa's but no Teresa!

One "possibility" may be that she was named Rosa Teresa but went by Teresa because there were so many "Rosa Monopoli's" at the time? Just a thought. Rosa was obviously an important name in the family which they wanted to honour and carry through the generations. So while you are looking for Teresa and Cosmo keep an eye out for a Rosa Monopoli just in case, although I suspect if someone was known as "Teresa" then that is what would appear on the death record, but not always. It would depend on who registerd the death???? Just brainstorming here. (I need to go out shortly so can't help, sorry. Let me know how you get on. Best to you on this. :) )

Angela...what a great thought! I'll definitely be on the lookout for that. It would make sense.

As an aside, I found a child born Maria Gaetana Stella; she died at age 1 month. Her name on that record was Gaetana Stella. So...you may be onto something!

Found: Oronzia Solfrizzi's death record, 1855!!!

thought I'd share. No translation assistance needed. Just happy to have finally found it.

Unfortunately, her mother's name was not recorded, but I now know her father's name was Luigi. This also continues the mystery of the naming pattern, since Luigi is the last born of all of the males in the family...unless there is an earlier child with the name that I haven't found (there are 2 years missing in the records that fall in the middle of the births in this family. Perhaps I'll find a death record earlier for a child named Luigi...
