So, my mother, sisters and I are applying for Italian duel citizenship and are getting all the paperwork together for our appointment at the San Francisco embassy on September 1st.
There's a question about our eligibility though.
My grandfather, Rudi, was born on March 20th 1938 in Naples and immediately was moved to Bolzano (where he grew up). He said that because the area was largely Germanic/Austrian, they would let you decide if you wanted to naturalize as Austrian or Italian. He picked Austria. Even though he never lived in Austria in his life, his American Naturalization papers (that he got after my mother was born) say that he was an Austrian citizen prior. He has always had an Italian passport, so I don't believe the Austria part will have an effect on our citizenship but we are still unsure and would like to be positive before we spend all the money to try to get the duel citizenship.
On another note. We have a photocopy of his original naturalization certificate that he gave us, but my mother doesn't think he'll let us take the original for the citizenship process.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me!
I can also answer more questions if it will help
