Birth Record Translation for Giovanna LaCapra

Post by nlacapra »

Hi Everyone,

I could really use someone’s help translating the following document in as much detail as possible. I believe this to be my great-grandfathers sisters’ birth record from 1877. I found this from the Potenza, Basilicata, Italy, Civil Registration Records, 1861-1938.

I also cleaned up the images the best I could and which I think could help with translating!

I appreciate the help and so does my family

Thank you!

Birth No 18: Giovanna La Capra
Vaglio di Basilicata: 3 February 1877, 5.03 pm

Carlantonio La Capra, 30, peasant (contadino), living this town, reported that at 8.04 am yesterday in the house in Strada Vergara, no number, from his wife, Camilla Danzi, 27 yo, daughter of deceased Rocco, was born a baby girl, who he presented and named Giovanna.

Witnesses:
Faustino Avigliano, 42, and Matteo La Sala, 63, both contadini – peasants.

You have done a fantastic job of cleaning it up. Thank you. (If these Vaglio di Basilicata records are online, you can just link us to the image when you find it :) )

Could you please translate this one for me?

You guys do an amazing job translating these records for me, the least I could do is make it easy for you!

I once again apologize for the error!

Thanks

All good. It happens :)

Birth No 20: Giovanna La Capra
Vaglio di Basilicata: 7 February 1877, 4.05 pm

Nicola La Capra, 30, contadino, living this town, reported that at 11.04 pm, yesterday (6 February 1877) in the house in Strada Casalgrande, without number, from Antonia Mocciola, daughter of deceased Rocco, 25 yo, his wife, was born a baby girl, who he presented and named Giovanna.

Witnesses:
Francesco La Sala, 60, and Giuseppantonio La Sala, 29, both contadini living in this town.

BTW: Are these records not on line? If they are, you can just link us to the image and then we can just zoom in. It makes it easier all round then.

(Also, did you know that La Capra means The Goat. Growing up we always kept goats, (we called them craapp (phonetically - the "a" being pronounced like the "a" in "are") in dialect, for milk and cheese making, and they were so much smarter than sheep and really friendly.)
