Ancestry and FTDNA DNA Match
I am bringing my question to this forum in the hopes for some direction or help since I am at a dead end. I have a 4th-6th cousin match who shows on both the Ancestry and FTDNA sites with the last name Fallara. This name runs on my paternal grandmother's side. My DNA match has this surname in his tree with ggg grandparents named Giuseppe Fallara and wife Michela Fallara. Per the 1910 US Federal Census -they lived on Broome Street -Little Italy, NYC. The Census says Giuseppe immigrated about 1886. Other records trace them back to Messina Sicily. I was able to locate a passenger manifest showing an arrival on May 6th, 1886 for a Giuseppe Fallara from "Nicosig" which I was told could be Nicosia, Sicily. I am stumped since my genealogy tree has Fallara ancestors coming from Fossato Calabro (Jonico) which is in Reggio Calabria not Sicily, so I do not see the DNA ancestral connection. I have ancestors in my tree that go as far back as mid 1700s all in Fossato Calabro -Reggio Calabria. I am very confused since I can not find the common ancestor connection between with my paternal family and this new DNA match I discovered. Please help.
Re: Ancestry and FTDNA DNA Match
How many cM's is the match? It could be a false positive or the sum of two more distant matches or the connection may actually be through another surname and Fallara is just a coincidence.

You speak of "other records trace them back to Messina, Sicily." Did this possibly include the Naturalization papers? Often, those show specific towns in Italy/Sicily, not merely the country of origin. You also say that you have ancestors in your Tree that go back to the mid-1700's. You will probably need to similarly (closely) examine this DNA match's Tree to see if you can possibly glean something there. Have you asked to do (see) that from this person?
