Translation: Marriage Publication #10, Fossombrone, 1888

Post by hallsandgrants »

Greetings I would like to get a narrative translation of this marriage publication record for Eugenio Chiappini and Genoveffa Melania Bresciani from Fossombrone, dated 1888. I am a newbie and a detailed translation of the entire document would be very helpful to me, to include the pre-printed portions (it will help me to read other documents in the future).

Please see record #10 in either the link or image attachment below. If you cannot read the attached image then click on the link to open it and then click on it again to enlarge it. Ciao, Eric

Marriage Publication No 10: Eugenio Chiappini and Genoveffa Melania Bresciani

Dated in the town of Fossombrone on 19 January 1888, 11 am

Before the official, appeared

Prospective Groom: Eugenio Chiappini, never married, 25 years compiti (completed - so had already turned 25), colono, residing Fossombrone, son of Andrea (Chiappini); colono, residing in Fossombrone; and son of Rosa Rossini (spelt Rossini here), colona, residing Fossombrone,

and also appearing:

Prospective Bride: Genoveffa Melania Bresciani , never married, 26 yo, colona, residing Fossombrone, daughter of Luigi (Bresciani), colono, residing in Fossombrone, and daughter of the deceasd Camilla Ordonselli, who resided in Fossombrone when living...

Who have asked me to make the publications (banns) for the marriage that they intend to celebrate in this office; and they told me that the groom was born in Fossombrone, and that the bride was also born in Fossombrone, and that they had both resided in the town of Fossombrone today for a year; neither had adoptive parents, nor were there any obstacles to preventing them marrying, due to kinship, affinity, or other impediments established by law (ie no legal obstacles.)

These declarations/statements have been confirmed, by legal oath, by the following witnesses:

Ermolao Giombolini, 43 yo, (impiegato), and Raffaele Zagagli???, 32 yo, Calzolaio (cobbler/shoemaker), both residing in this town.

After examining the documents presented to me, I insert them in the volume of the attachments to this register, with my endorsement, and I declare that the publications will be made in Fossombrone.

The documents presented were copies of birth acts of the groom and bride released by the Pastor of this Cathedral, dated 31 December 1887 and 3 January 1888.

Right-hand Column:

This just states when the banns, which were affixed to the door of the town hall, were posted.

So pleased to hear that the translation made sense and that you found it helpful. Sometimes translating from Italian to English doesn't make sense or can sound a little clumsy. Glad it worked for you. Happy to help.

I always check the signatures as well, and had noticed he had signed himself as Raffaele Zagalli, and then flicked through some more records where I again saw the "Zagalli" spelling. Obviously I omitted to correct the draft I was working on, before posting. I didn't notice any "Zagalli's" in the Pagine Bianche, but quite few "Zagallo's"
