Tessitore marriage record

Post by jml1991 »

Apologies for requesting help again so soon, but any information would be much appreciated! On the attached marriage record for Giacomo Tessitore and Vincenza Siragusa (from Prizzi, Sicily, in 1682), I am confused by the notation following the name of Giacomo's father, Antonio. It looks like "vel Marii" (Mario? or Maria?). I believe Antonio's father was Francesco (not Mario), and can find no other marriage document for Antonio other than one for his marriage to Vincenza, shown here as his wife, ruling out (maybe) that Maria was a late wife. Any ideas of what this notation might mean?

Thank you for any help!

That means Antonio was also known as "Mario".
