find surname ancestor's foster child

We have an ancestor that we are researching and have learned that they had 2 Foster children. The surname of our ancestor is D'Orso. However the surnames of the children we cannot find. We have the first names of the children Nancy and Clair. The time period is between 1920 and 1940. We appreciate any help in getting their surnames. r&r

If they lived in the USA, have you tried with census records?
