In looking at several birth records in Conflenti from about 1835 to 1845 we are finding that at least a half dozen men are listed as having an occupation of sportaro (our best transcription). We have translated this as meaning shooter. What would be involved in the occupation of shooter?
Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Re: Sportaro as an occupation
I have a question about orphans. It is said in my family that my great-grandfather was adopted in Caltanissetta, Sicily. He was born in 1878. Is there any way to verify this and discover his genetic parents?
