Birth No 6: Arcangelo Castellano

S. Angelo Lombardi: 3 January 1821
Appearing was Giuseppe Castellano, 40 yo, Vatirale? Carrier?, living Strada Petrile, to present a male baby born from Rosa Contino, his legitimate wife, aged 36, on 2 January 1821, at 7 am in the house where he lived. The baby was given the name Arcangelo.

Witnesses:
Guiseppe Antoniello, 38 yo, and Amato Fuschetto, 50 yo, both bracciali (laborers), both living Strada S. Nicola.

Arcangelo Castellano was baptised on 3 January 1821.

Hopefully it is the Arcangelo Castellano you are looking for. :)

Thank you so much Angela!

Just a couple of questions:

Arcangelo’s father is Guiseppe?

His mother is Rosa Contino?

What does “Vitrale?” And “Carrier?” Mean?

Who is Strada Petrile?

Very happy to help.

Yes, Giuseppe is the father and Rosa Contino is the mother.

Vitirale (Viticale) is Giuseppe's profession. He was a Carrier or Carter which I have always understood it to be someone who carries things for others with his own animals and/or carts. I'm not sure whether mmogno would agree with this definition?

"Strada Petrile" – Petrile Street – This is basically the address where they lived and where the baby was born, but there was no number given on the record. As you can see, mmogno has kindly posted a link to a map of the town which shows "Via Petrile," which is what it is presently called. Strada and Via seem to be used interchangeably, but I think a difference might be that "Strada" was rural and "Via" was more in the town? Anyways, it is now called "Via Petrile".

Hope this helps. It's good to ask questions if you don't understand or need clarification. Someone will be happy to help. (It can be a little overwhelming when you first start looking at records that are not written in your mother language.)

Is there anyway we can find out more on Giuseppe?

Any chance you were able to find out if Archangelo had any siblings?
