I am hoping someone can help translate this record. I can see the parents are Vincente Battista and Teresa Liquori, age 30, from Chiaromonte, Italy and the child being baptized in the Catholic Church is their son Leonardo. Does it give Leonardo’s age or date of birth? Is there other important information?

Vincenzo (Vincente in Spanish) Battista, was 44 yo, Colochonero (Colonist)?
Teresa's surname has been misindexed. It is Teresa Liguori.
Leonardo was born 29 May 1882, 6 am.
Both parents were born Italia.
I'm understanding that he was the fifth child of the marriage.

Thank you for translating another record. This is the first family I have come across so far that immigrated to South America. I located the 1895 census on FamilySearch showing Teresa (widow), Paolo, Leonardo and another son Juan born about 1886 in Argentina. I was unable to locate any other information on FamilySearch.

I located a copy of a letter dated 16 November 1903 to the Mayor of Chiaromonte signed by 229 former residents then living in Buenos Aires, many with family names that appear on my tree so I expect I will be researching Argentina a bit more.

In addition to FamilySearch, are you aware of another source of online records?

In the 1895 Census the spelling of Battista is Bautista and the spelling of Liguori is Luguel.

I took a look to see if I could find Vincenzo's death record. I came across the following entry in the indices. Unfortunately, the 1888 death records are not on line so I can't be sure that it is the right Vincenzo Battista. I also looked in the Chiaromonte death records spanning a few years but I didn't see anything there, so maybe the death record wasn't sent back, or it was sent back many years later which can happen.

I'll just leave these with you for now. My suggestion would be to keep searching Family Search using the various spellings that we have found here for both Battista and Liguori. A few years ago I did a lot of reseach on one of my ancestors who I discovered died in Argentina and I remember at the time that Family Search was the best and possibly only place to find bmd's for that country. Things may have changed but I don't think so.

Thank you so much for the links to the Leo family. I wondered what the circumstances were that prompted the letter to be sent.

The article said the 1903 letter was sent by the residents of Buenos Aires and Gualeguaychu. The attachment with a photo of the letter shows two set of signatures. Is there anything written indicating one set from residents of Buenos Aires and the other from Gualeguaychu?

Having the copy with the signatures to compare with other documents should be of great help determining the identify some of the people in my tree that may have emigrated to South America.

It likely said colchonero, which translates as upholsterer.
