Ancona passenger list for 7Nov1915
The ship Ancona after leaving Italy 07Nov, 1915 was attacked at sea, and two Desiderio family children, out of 300 people lost, supposedly went down with the ship. These children, my father’s brother and sister, were being escorted by adult relatives, and they were to port in NYC. They were just a few years old at the time they went missing and never seen or heard of again. All we know is that A French ship “Pluton” picked up survivors, of which 157 were put off at Micerta Tunis and 54 at Malta. This caused the father of the children, my grandfather, so much grief; he went back to Italy to join and fight in the Italian army, and left his entire remaining family in NYC, and Angri, Salerno behind. With passing time I’ve forgotten the children’s given names and the entire names of those relatives, who survived the sinking, who were supposed to safeguard these children. We never stopped thinking about the horror those poor beautiful little lambs endured, or the truth about what really happened to them. Just knowing their names would be something more than nothing. Can anyone with skill in these matters look into this cold case? I thank you all sincerely.

Dear mmogno,
These six PDF’s posted on my behalf must have taken a number of hours of your time and effort for which I am grateful. Though the two missing Desiderio siblings remain a blank and unnamed for posterity, their lives still evoke a memory, a mention, and at least it has been put out there in the ether.
Though I’m not fluent in Italian I was at able to glean two survivor lists and a castaway list also, which merited a read aloud by me. It was like placing a pebble on their stone, RIP.
Thank you!

You gave so many great suggestions but for some reason none of them worked for me.
Still searching for the passenger list for the 1915 SS Ancona.
If anybody has a way to find this and kindly allow me to view it that would be wonderful been searching for years.

Re: Ancona passenger list for 7Nov1915
My great-grandmother and her 4 youngest children all died on the Ancona when it sank in 1915. I've been looking for their death records, the passenger list, or a list of victims for years, unsuccessfully. Finally, I found death records for the 4 children and the records explicitly mention the sinking of the Ancona (I haven't been able to decipher them completely yet, so there may be other useful information in them as well). I found the records by looking in the death registry for the town in which they were born for the year 1916. At the back of the registry is something called Series C that records the deaths of the town's citizens who died elsewhere. Maybe this information can be helpful to those of you who are still searching for information on your family members who were on the Ancona.
