Hi! I have managed to find a lot of information about my family but everytime I find something new, I'm left with more and more questions.
I was 100% convinced that Giuseppe Vischini got married to Lucia Perluigi and had a son called Felice Vischini. Today, as I was reading Lucia death's record I realized it's written Giovanni there, which made me realize they had another son called Giovanni. However, in Giovanni's death record it's written Lucia Picciolini. Is it possible that he had a different mother or maybe the person who wrote it made a mistake because the first name is the same? Help
Felice died in 1887 at age 62, putting his birth around 1825. His mother is listed as Lucia Pierluigi, who died in 1864. Lucia Pierluigi is listed as the mother of Felice and Giovanni on her death record. She is listed as born in another town and of unknown parents.
Giovanni died in 1880 at age 58, putting his birth at about 1822. His mother is listed as Lucia Picciolini.
It’s possible that Giuseppe married twice and that both were named Lucia P. Based on the maternal info for the boys, if Lucia Pierluigi is a second wife, Lucia Picciolini would have to have died between about 1822-1825.
There is the possibility of an illegitimate birth with Lucia Picciolini as mother. That is possible, although it is highly probable that such a birth child would not be claimed by the parents. Almost certainly both children wouldn’t be listed as Lucia’s sons on her death record in the way that was done here. To me it doesn’t look likely that an illegitimate birth is the case.
If it’s not from a second spouse and not an illegitimate birth, that leaves the possibility of an error. The Italian records are pretty diligent and you don’t see surnames messed up very often. When you see it it’s usually only a slight misspelling. The fact that she was from another comune and of unknown parents would probably increase the chance of an error though.
Some places to get more information to help resolve the mystery would be
• Marriage records for the sons, likely from 1845-1855
• Birth records for the sons, likely 1821-1826
• Marriage records for Giuseppe and Lucia Pierluigi (1822-1825 if she’s a second spouse)
• Death record of Giovanni who apparently died before 1864. (This would often list all prior spouses)
