Searching for Levio and Francesca Ramella

Post by LRamella »

I am searching for my great grandparents Levio(or Livio) and Francesca(maiden name Bobbola) Ramella.
Looking for all records(births,marraiges,deaths,etc..)
They lived in the Biella region, most likely in Andorno or Chiavazza. They had at least 1 son named Luciano (my Grandfather). They both came down with the flu, Levio passed away in 1917/18, and Francesca in 1919/20. Before she passed her mother brought Luciano down to Genoa and sent him to America. He went to New York by himself at 7 years of age, was processed through Ellis Island on August 9,1919, and was picked up by Francesca’s bother Domenico Bobbola. She had 2 Sisters that lived in New Jersey Angiolina Frignoca and Ramilda Ramella. Ramilda married an unrelated Ramella. She also had 1 more brother Chesare Bobbola in Chiavazza, he never went to the U.S. Her parents were Carlo and Maddalena (maiden name Barberus or Barberis) Bobbola. For the Ramella, Luciano had an uncle Francesco Ramella and Cousin Remo in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. There was also a brother Alfonso in Italy)listed as brother to the uncle Francesco on the ships manifest . Unfortunately this is all we know, all of this information is from documents in the U.S.. I have found zero records online in Italy, using ancestry, familysearch.org, Antenati, and several others. Maybe the Biella records are not cataloged online yet. Have looked at Torino and Vercelli records extensively but to no avail. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated! Thank you, Lee Ramella

A post on my website will help you understand what records will be uploaded to antenati and what records have been digitized. If what you need is not available on line you will need to write to the Comune.
It looks like what you need is at Family Search but only viewable at their Family History Centre.

Thanks for the reply, Unfortunately The LDS family history center here in Jackson WY is run by a volunteer 16 year old. The 2 times I went there, she did not know how to order the microfilm, and didn't even have the logins for Ancestry.com! I contacted(left a message with the salt lake city office), but they have not replied back, and it has been 2 weeks ..I will keep trying.
thank you.

If only one didn't have to go to the FHL, due to the fact that I'm many hours away from any other center that is open more than 2 hours a week, this place has almost dial up speed! I got through only 300 pages in the last 2 weeks. Looks like a (research binge) trip to Salt Lake will get more research done than 2 months where i am..

Well, a trip has not been possible to another FHC, they closed the FHC where I live in Wyoming( long before the coronavirus closures), I believe due to that I was the only one that showed when it was open for the 6 months I was able to use the center..the dial up speed was unbearable. Does anyone know what other avenues that I may look for records without trying to hire a professional. I also tried corresponding with the communes, and the church st quarico in chiavazza where my grandfather was supposedly baptized. I received zero responses from either, and I believe 6 months has been sufficient time to hear back from them.. any advice would be appreciated.

I am the granddaughter of Gabriel Ramella, who lived in Haledon, NJ.
I remember Remilda! She was good friends with my great aunt, Rose Ramella Gruppo. I found this when looking for my grandfather's naturalization records. It says that she was born in Chiavazza . http://records.passaiccountynj.org/pres ... ?op=search
Did you do your DNA? Remilda and my Aunt always thought that they were cousins. They worked as weavers together in the factory in Paterson.

I just this past week sent of my DNA test, so it will be a while. I did know Remilda, but as far as I know/remember was that she married an unrelated Ramella. With that said Chiavazza is a very small parish in Biella (Full of Ramellas!) Her Husband was Joseph ( Guesseppi) Ramella Pezza. the Pezza from what I understood dropped off when he became a citizen. The second last name was also to hopefully ensure they didnt marry relatives.
So i we are related it would me more likely through her husband or my great grandfather Levio. If you have some other leads on family in Chiavazza I would love to know..still have found zero documentation from the Italy side.
Thanks for reply , maybe if your DNA (assuming you have done this) will show a relation !
