I have been finding it nearly impossible to hunt down my husbands great grandfather, Carmen Caruso. My interest was peaked even further when a 3rd cousin informed me that Carmen’s mother was named Emmanuela. A name that was passed to my husbands grandmother and now to our oldest daughter. Carmen’s parents never left Italy and they and any Caruso family we have in Italy is shrouded in mystery. It blew my mind that anyone knew Carmen’s mother was named Emmanuela.


Carmen was born in 1878 and married Ralphaela Capello (b. 1894) They were both in Central PA by 1911 when my husbands grandmother was born. To make things even more mysterious, Carmen helped bring his in laws over and settled near them but not his own family. Anyone out there with any other clues to help solve the family mystery?
