Long Island New York - Research

Post by stfrancis »

Hi all,

Was just wondering if anyone might know of a reasonable researcher or genealogist from New York, Queens, or Long Island areas.

I would need to have a search done for obits and to have some cemetery searches and photos taken (in particular in Calvary Cemetery and St Charles Cemetery-East Farmingdale).

It does not necessarily have to be a "professional" genealogist, but at least someone who is familiar and comfortable doing this type of task.

You can also PM me. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank you justinfrombrklyn, I will let you know.

Thank you ffusiak, I tried most of those sources. I think I need to find a local newspaper on film, maybe at the Queens Library...

ffusiak, oops...I should have mentioned...

It's for a death in January, 1972 (Joseph Focarile), and there are others from the early 1980's.

For my family, in NY or surrounding area, I have found only a single obit, or death notice out of hundreds of relatives! Where I live, I have found many obits, or at least notices, going back to the 1940's! Before that, of course, death notices were very rare.

I was thinking or hoping my lack of success has been due to the fact that I just haven't found the appropriate local newspaper yet :( . I know the family lived in the Astoria area for a long time. I believe they were relatively wealthy, so I'm a bit surprised there is no mention of the family.
