Hi again,
May I have some assistance with the marriage record of my 8th great grandfather's son (brother of my 7th gg) which I posted earlier. There are many marriages listed here. I believe it reads;
10 Feb 1680 Banns were published on then 20, 22 and 29 of Feb, marriage in the Parish church.
Giovanni Petri son of nobilis? (an official or?- I doubt a priest) Giovanni Battista Nigri and Marium? daughter of Antonio Borghesi.

Thank you so much.

Nobilis (abbreviated to "Nob" which you have seen in some of your other records). It's a title meaning Nobile or Honourable. It's possibly similar to the Italian title Don and Donna?
Mariam – would be either Maria or Miriam. More likely Maria.

Dear Angela (AngelaGrace56),
Thank you for assistance with the names; I appreciate it so much. Does this mean the family calls them honorable?

"Non so" - (I don't know). They were possibly "nobs" as well - i.e. people of wealth and high social position. The family may have referred to them as "Don" or "Donna" if they weren't of the same "class"? My son and I are off to see the movie "Downton Abbey" tomorrow, so shall take a closer note of how Lords and Ladies, within a family, addressed each other in England. (I've have the complete televsion series on dvd. Can't wait to see the movie.)jrbak wrote: 19 Sep 2019, 21:26 Dear Angela (AngelaGrace56),

Thank you so much for your comments. Maybe as I go back further I will find something more. I see he did some witnessing to marriages although that isn't unusual. I will look into the period of history in Piverone at this time if I can find something on it which might be telling. I know the movie will be great; we too enjoyed the series.
Have fun,
