Translation Birth Document

Post by marzolinoam »

Hello friends:

I was wondering if someone would assist me by translating a document on the Antenati site. Here is the link. It is Image 248 and #741. Any help is greatly appreciated. http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 0.jpg.html

Birth No 741: Vincenzo Licari
Marsala: 8 May 1886

Appearing was Vito Licari, 40 yo, Farmer, living Marsala. He reported that at 8 am, yesterday (7 May 1886), in the house in Villa Bergi, No 9, Giovanna Manzo, his wife, living with him, gave birth to a baby boy who he presented, and named Vincenzo.

Annotation: On 27 October 1914 marries Rosa ? (looks like Dengiorno? Delgiorno?)

Edit to Add: Here's the 1914 Marriage Record. Rosa's surname was Bongiorno.

Marriage No 345: Vincenzo Licari and Rosa Bongiorno

You are very welcome. Here's the translation of the marriage record which contains some added info:

Marriage No 345: Vincenzo Licari and Rosa Bongiorno

Marsala: 27 October 1914

Groom: Vincenzo Licari, never married, 28 yo, proprietario (landowner), born in Marsala, residing in Marsala, son of Vito (Licari), and of Giovanna Manzo, both residing in Marsala.

Bride: Rosa Bongiorno, never married, 31 yo, casalinga (domestic), born in Marsala, residing in Marsala, daughter of Giuseppe (Bongiorno), and of Concetta De Bartali?, both residing Marsala.

I can't quite catch all the words, so it needs to be fine tuned, but, at the base of the record, I'm understanding that the couple, in the presence of those present, also explained that, from their natural union they had given birth to a baby boy, declared (who was registered), in the town, on 16 February 1914, Act No 1067, as "son of mother and father unknown" and given the name Vito Bongiorno. I'm understanding that they were legitimising their son.

Thank you for the correction, G, and for typing up the Italian. I think I understood correctly. I'll take a closer look later when I have my own computer.

I'm glad you located the Marriage Banns as I was planning to take a look for these later to see whether there might have been any extra information, and there is.

Additional information taken from the Marriage Banns:

Vito Licari was 70 yo, and a contadino.
Giovanna Manzo was a casalinga. (Housewife/Domestic)

Giuseppe Bongiorno was 60 yo, and a landowner.
Concetta De Bartoli, was a Casalinga.

The groom had previously been residing in America.

At the base of the record, I am understanding that there is mention of a Notary Deed that had been presented that day, to the official, "from which it appeared, that during the groom's (permanent) stay in America, and previously in Chicago, the groom did not contract any marriage and was unmarried . " This is basically saying that he had never married and was free to marry.
