Italian Orphan Birth certificate - illegible handwriting

Post by mcor77 »

Hi!

Just found this forum and wonder if anyone could help me decipher the birth certificate of my great-great grandmother who I recently discovered was an orphan ("Proietti" and "genitori ignati" was written in various places for her kids.)

I've attached the document. The part that is stumping me is the large paragraph in the middle as this is where I assume most of the new information will come from.

I can read and speak fluent Italian, the handwriting is the only part stumping me!
I can see she was presented by someone called "Elisabetta Trunfio".

Grazie!

Noi dietro aver verificato che detta fanciulla è dell'età apparente di giorni quattro gli abbiamo imposto il nome di Clementina..."

As you said, Elisabetta "declared that, last night at 6, while she was at home, in this Town, in Santa Caterina district, some people she didn't know left the child near her back door (?); she wore some rags, and had no writings nor marks on her. After verifying that such baby is apparently four days old, we gave her name Clementina..."
