On record # 17, for Carmela Puma, what is the name of her late husband?

He was Calogero Sciollintano. The script is quite challenging.

Sure Was. Thank you. I'm starting to think that the record keepers were hired on the basis of who had the worst handwriting. Wish they would have printed everything.

As the handwriting is really terrible, I add my two cents: "Scicchitano".

Thanks. I tried to find each surname spelling on an Italian surname search website. Yours was the only one that came up.

Hi Ron

You'll find that there are many Italian surnames that are not included in those Italian surname search websites. I always find the best source for verifying the correct name or spelling is to search through the records themselves.

I believe the name is Sciollintano. It is a surname that existed back then in Racalmuto and still exists in Agrigento today. This isn't your Calogero but it might help you with your determining the correct name: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1946817

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I have bookmarked your Italian surnames website, but I can't figure out how to use it.
