Re: Birth Registry Translation for Rosa Dolce in Mazara del Vallo, June 14, 1902
Hi again
Birth No 418: Rosa Dolce
Registered Maz(z)ara del Vallo on 16 June 1902
Appearing was Giacoma Severino, 47 yo, Casalinga (domestic/housewife), living in Maz(z)ara, who reported that at 9 am, on 14 June 1902, in the house in Vico Pieta', from Maria Bonaccia***, casalinga, wife of Francesco Dolce, pescatore (fisherman), both residing in this town, was born a baby girl who she presented and named Rosa.
Then there is a handwritten note at the bottom explaining why Giacoma Severino, who had witnessed the birth, presented the baby and reported her birth: Maria Bonaccia's husband "was far from the city".
*** I'm not really sure what the mother's surname is. It looks like Bonaccia to me. It doesn't appear in the town though, but it does appear in Sicilia, with both one "c" and two "c's".. Similar names appearing in the town are Bonasera and Bonanno.
.
Just wanted to mention that: With the birth and death records, the actual date of the event appears in the body of the record, not at the top of the record. The date that you see at the top of the record is the date of registration. Sometimes the event is registered on the same day, but definitely not always. In this birth record, if you come down to the eighth line you will see the words, "del di quattordici del corrente mese," (basically meaning "of the fourteenth (day) of the current month, so born 14 June). The words you see here can change from record to record, depending on the situation, and the scribe; for example, if the birth had taken place "yesterday" then you may just see the word "ieri" etc.
