1747 Riveli Record - Brief Translation Help

Post by darkerhorse »

This is a 1747 Riveli record from Sicily.

Entry 17 reads that Mauro Pitruzzello owns no property.

What does the last sentence mean?

He lives at the Office of Shepherds?

He makes his living with the Office of Shepherds?

He works as a shepherd but he owns nothing (no land or sheep) himself?

"campa con l'officio di pecoraio" = "he works as a shepherd"
leading to pasture other people's sheep

"Officio" at that time (not today) was used to mean "job"
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi
